Community Events and Engagement

Alongside my clinical work, I occasionally contribute to community events, workshops, talks, panel discussions, and media projects that explore themes of mental health, identity, belonging, and wellbeing.

I believe that wellbeing is nurtured not only through individual reflection, but also through meaningful connection with others. As such, I am passionate about community engagement and creating spaces where people can come together to learn, share experiences, and grow collectively.

I am also committed to making psychological knowledge more accessible beyond traditional clinical settings. In particular, I am interested in supporting minoritised communities to access conversations about mental health, identity, belonging, and wellbeing, with a special focus on Arab communities and the unique cultural and social contexts that shape their experiences.

Between Worlds: Exploring British-Arab Identity | Hosted at Palestine House

What does it mean to grow up both British and Arab?

For many second-generation British-Arabs, questions of identity and belonging can feel both deeply personal and shaped by the wider world around us. How do we navigate belonging across multiple cultures, languages, histories, and expectations? In a socio-political climate marked by Islamophobia, racism, and narrow representations of Arab identity, how do we make sense of who we are?

Facilitated by psychologist Dr Lynn Hamadallah, this gathering draws on years of doctoral research exploring how second-generation British-Arabs negotiate their cultural identities across different stages of life. Through a blend of research insights, personal reflection, and group conversation, we will explore the complexities, tensions, and possibilities of growing up between cultures.

Together, we will reflect on questions of upbringing, belonging, representation, family, and culture. We will explore how our relationships with different parts of our identities can shift over time, the push and pull many of us experience between cultures, and what it means to define these identities on our own terms.

Join us for an afternoon of conversation, reflection, tea, and sweets as we come together to explore our identity journeys in community. Whether these questions feel central to your life or are simply something you've been quietly curious about, you are warmly welcome.

A conversation about what it means to live between worlds — and how we begin to make that space our own.

Palestinian Childhoods in Diaspora: Stories from Therapeutic Practice and Research | Hosted at the ‘Resisting the Silencing of Palestinian Children’ International Symposium

Co-presented with: Dr Jeeda Al-Hakim, Counselling Psychologist, and Rawan Hakim, Trainee Counselling Psychologist

This presentation explored the experiences of Palestinian children growing up in diaspora against the backdrop of ongoing violence, displacement, and erasure of Palestinian narratives. Drawing on therapeutic practice and doctoral research, we examined how childhood experiences shape identity, belonging, grief, and wellbeing across generations.

We reflected on the experiences shared by Palestinian and other British-Arab participants in research exploring identity and belonging, alongside emerging findings from research focused specifically on Palestinian identity in the UK. Together, these perspectives highlighted the emotional and psychological impact of growing up within contexts where one's culture, history, and lived experiences are often misunderstood, marginalised, or politicised.

The presentation concluded by considering how psychologists, educators, and researchers can more meaningfully support Palestinian children and families in diaspora, while resisting forms of erasure and promoting visibility, dignity, and justice.
